How to Install Hexagon LED Lights in Your Garage (Step by Step)

Hexagon LED panels look high-tech, but installing them is simple. Most SV Luminary kits go up in under an hour using the flush-mount hardware in the box. Here is exactly how it works, plus when to bring in a licensed electrician.

What comes in every kit

  • Aluminum-framed hexagon panels with the LED tubes
  • Edge connectors, so the panels click together in any shape
  • A flush-mount install kit
  • Spare parts in the box
  • A 2-year warranty

Tools you will need

  • Drill or screwdriver
  • Tape measure and a pencil
  • A ladder
  • Optional: cable ties, or our adjustable cables, for frame or drop ceilings

Step by step

  1. Plan your layout. Measure your ceiling and decide how much area you want to cover. Our buyer's guide matches kit sizes to common garages and bays, or send us your dimensions for a free custom layout.
  2. Dry-fit the shape. Lay the panels out on the floor and connect them edge-to-edge with the included connectors, so you can confirm the arrangement before drilling.
  3. Mount it. Hold the array to the ceiling, mark your points, and screw the connectors in through the mounting holes for a flush install. On a frame or drop ceiling, use cable ties or suspension cables instead.
  4. Power and test. Connect the kit to your lighting circuit, then power it on and confirm every panel lights up before final tightening.

Wiring: hardwire or plug-in

Every kit is ready to be hardwired into your existing lighting circuit, and a 120V plug adapter is available if you prefer to plug in. We recommend a licensed electrician for hardwired installs and for any larger or commercial kit. We print each kit's exact watts and amps on its product page so your electrician can confirm the circuit. See our Electrical and Power FAQ for the details.

How many panels do you need?

A single bay or home gym usually wants a 5 or 8-panel kit, a standard 2-car garage runs an 11 or 14-panel, and large or commercial ceilings step up to the 18, 22, or 30-panel. The full breakdown is in the buyer's guide.
